Woollahra Residence
New South Wales
Site Area | 280m²
Value | $750,000
3 storeys comprising 4 bedrooms apartments, 4 bathrooms and 2 cars
This grand 6m wide terrace in Woollahra had a rear ground floor addition that was a bit of a rabbit warren with various changes in level, and the upper level bedrooms and bathrooms that where very rundown and lacking any storage.
The main front rooms of the original terrace were maintained, and a new limestone floor laid throughout the ground floor unified the house and created a seamless transition from the old to the new to the outside.
The existing rear room had a wonderful glass conservatory roof. The new addition took inspiration from this and reconfigured the informal living, dining and kitchen around a large glass skylight. The skylight with its low e glazing and operable louvres to control the sun and light into the space and provides an ever changing experience of the day.
A new internal courtyard helps articulate between the old and new buildings. The sliding doors to the kitchen are integrated into a steel awning that allow the doors to slide completely away, blurring the boundaries between the inside and out.
