Atlas is an Urban Design practice with a broad range of private and public projects. These vary from large scale projects to detailed area planning for individual sites. We provide urban solutions that integrate architectural and landscaping design while considering social, traffic and technical infrastructure, and varying land use proposals.
Our strong focus on research is rooted in a belief that effective planning, careful investigation of precedents and a clear identification of urban patterns will result in successful transformation of a place. 'Defining the question’ is the result of close collaboration with our client. This vital step in the project cycle determines the task of the work and frames the desired outcome.
Our special interest lies in the relationship between people and the built environment; the way individuals, or the community as a whole, interpret and respond to features of the public domain. Our work typically includes the analysis of land use, accessibility, streetscape and public domain to guide progressive development. We seek to engage with the people’s experience through statistical study of usage patterns and demography, as well as comparative studies of the impact of similar developments. We work with stakeholders to map out a visionary goal for site development. We are also experienced in facilitating community involvement in the planning and development process. These factors combine to produce very practical, well-balanced, and realistic designs, with clear vision and an appreciation of the needs and desires of both our client and the community.
